March 14, 2012 - Early Spring Fun Fly

We're enjoying an early spring this year and I have no problem with that.  The weather was sunny and warm in the 70s on this Wednesday so I took off early from work and went flying.

I decided to check out this merchant ship heading into Baltimore.

I hope that stuff the ship discharged in its wake isn't what it looks like.  Reminder to self: don't swim in the Chesapeake Bay ever again.

I crossed the Chesapeake Bay and approached Rock Hall.  I've flown over it many times but have never been there.

Cruising south down the eastern shore.

Since I was just out to enjoy flying and not going anywhere, I throttled way back to 14.6 inches of manifold pressure at 2110 rpm.  I was only burning 5 gallons/hour at that power setting.  But the RV is still doing a respectable 130 mph.

Just checking out the scenary.

Over my sister-in-law Brenda's house.

Over Kent Narrows.  Lynnette and I had dinner down there at the Kent Narrows restaurant the other day.

Kent Narrows from afar.

There is a herd of deer in that cul de sac in the middle of the image.

Headed up the Chester River.

More Chester River.

You've see the flock of birds hovering around fishing boats.  Here is a flock of birds overing around a Combine.

I decided to stop at Massey Aerodrome, a grass strip airport and one of my favorite places.

The RV parked at Massey Aerodrome.

The open hanger is where the regulars work on their airplane projects.  They have all the tools known to man.  I went in and talked with them for awhile, and then walked around the place.

Some airplanes will never fly again.

Back at Essex Skypark, I was about to gas up the RV when Chip rolled by in his Stearman.  He asked if I wanted to go for a ride.  Oh yeah.  So I got to go for my first ever ride in a Stearman.  Here we are just off Millers Island about to go vertical.

Bruce had told me flying the Stearman is like flying a big Cub and I agree.  Although it would take me a few hours to get the hang of the big airplane before I think I could land it decently.

Chip had never flown in an RV before so I took him up.  I think he liked it.

So ended a very nice flying day.
